Dr. Paolo Berro

Expert in the field of accessibility, ergonomics and technologies, especially in support of people with disabilities.

Mechanical and Logistic Engineer, he was chosen as the first pilot user for a project of the Politecnico in Turin about the study and experimentation of communication equipment and techniques to help teaching in University Distance Learning Courses and the inclusion of people with serious disabilities in the labour market. He received the inventor certificate for having conceived, designed and obtained several patents related to aids for people with mobility impairments.

Since 2001 he has been working in the field of technological development and funded projects for an important multinational company expert in communication.

He is a member of I.W.A. (International Webmasters Association) and since 2003 member of the inter-ministerial commission INT (Innovation and New Technologies) for the development and support of information and communication in favor of weak categories. In this role he participated in the drafting of the bill n. 3978: “Disposizioni per favorire l’accesso dei soggetti disabili agli strumenti informatici”.

On 20 February 2006 he was appointed by the President of the Republic “Cavaliere al merito della Repubblica italiana” for philanthropic merits and social commitment.

Since 2006 he has been a member of the permanent interministerial commission for culture and tourism in favor of “weak” people.

From 2010 to 2014 he was a special advisor to the Vice-President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Industry and Transport concerning disability and accessibility.
