Deputy Rector for Research, Innovation and Technology Transfer at La Sapienza University of Rome.
Full Professor of Materials Science and Technology since 2001 at the Engineering Faculty of La Sapienza University of Rome. He is President of the National Inter-University Consortium for Materials Science and Technology (INSTM) and Director of La Sapienza University’s Department of Chemical Engineering Environment Materials. Former President of the “Sapienza Innovazione” Consortium, of the Spin-off Commission and of the Innovation Commission for Research and Technologies. Former member of the CNR-ISMN Scientific Council and responsible for the joint Italian-Japanese laboratory called RIN, he is a member of the Scientific Council of the Department of Chemical Sciences and Materials Technologies of the National Research Council. Member of the HCERES evaluation committee for ENSICAEN, he is responsible for numerous national and international research projects on materials and technologies for engineering and functional applications. His research activity concerns the scientific-technological areas: materials and technologies for automotive and aerospace applications and for high temperature applications; polymer matrix composites and recycling methods; materials and technologies for the conservation and restoration of cultural heritage; degradation and protection of metallic and non-metallic materials; surface engineering technologies for protection against wear and corrosion; nanostructured materials and coatings; methodologies of process / product modeling and optimization of production processes and materials processing / transformation technologies. He is responsible for projects funded by the EU and by national and international bodies.
In 2013 he receives the Marco Polo Award of Italian Science conferred by the Italian Institute of Culture in Osaka under the patronage of the Italian Embassy in Tokyo.
He is the author of more than 160 publications in National and International Journals and Proceedings of International / National Conferences and owner of two international and one national patents.
